A Tradition of Dog Birthday Cakes
In February, our boxer, Banjo turned 7 years old. She officially crossed the senior threshold and to celebrate, I got her a birthday cake!
If you’re new here, you might not be aware that this is not Banjo’s first birthday cake. In fact, Banjo has gotten a birthday cake almost every year! So far, I’ve bought two types of doggy birthday cake from one shop. I’ve made a birthday cake. And this year, I bought one from a different shop.

The Different Cakes We’ve Tried
So… how do they all stack up? Well, right off the bat, I’ll tell you that the cakes I’ve paid for were a lot prettier than the one I made myself. Though, there is a certain amount of pride in creating your own. If you want to try your hand at a doggy cake, by the way, then check out mine on Petful’s website. Or you can try your hand at these “pupcakes” I made.

When we lived in Brooklyn, Banjo had her very first birthday. I got her birthday cake from a pet shop just around the corner. It was a perishable (refrigerated) Bubba Rose brand cake. It was adorable and the perfect size for our two dogs to split.
One month earlier, I snagged a shelf-stable Bubba Rose birthday cake for our other dog’s Gotcha Day. Babe and Banjo shared that cake as well. It had a similar appearance to the refrigerated cake and the dogs devoured it.

This Year’s Cake From Butters Barkery
Fast forward 6 years and I decided to try a new maker for Banjo’s birthday cake. After looking around on Etsy, I fell in love with the fabulous cakes made by Butters Barkery. Although the turnaround time meant that it would be arriving after Banjo’s birthday, I still ordered it. And I’m so happy I did.

It cost $24.99, plus shipping, which seemed like a decent price, given the quality. The cake looked just as advertised and was perfectly packaged. Although the specific cake I ordered is no longer on their Etsy site (as of this post’s published date), you can still find it on their website HERE!

Banjo’s Opinion
I managed to contain Banjo’s drool with a well-placed towel so I could get a couple photos before the old girl got to enjoy her treat. She ate it messily, but happily. I think we know where we’ll be getting Banjo’s birthday cake next year!
